Operation Analysis

The operational process for McGraw-Hill Education’s digital product division consists of manufacturing physical access code cards for the various digital products at a manufacturing plant in the northwest United States. These access code cards are packaged and stored in a number of warehouses throughout the United States. Once orders are received, the cards are sometimes packaged with physical textbooks when applicable and distributed to College, University and some independent bookstores throughout the United States and even some international locations. These access codes are also available for purchase online for instant delivery when a student registers for their higher education course.

The five-year plan for the company is to minimize the physical products and eliminate paper textbooks from manufacturing and sales. The company profits can be maximized by focusing on digital products and digital delivery to eliminate the added expenses of manufacturing, warehousing, distributing and sales.

Major steps within this five-year plan include:

  • Focusing on company growth and profitability

  • Become the leading organization in the education digital product space

  • Develop an e-commerce solution that increases purchase process and profitability
